Benefits
Community benefits
Qualitas Energy is committed to meaningful community engagement and delivering long-term value to the local area surrounding the proposed Port Talbot Solar Farm.
Beyond the critical Net Zero and energy security benefits, Qualitas Energy would ensure lasting localised benefit and investment through delivery of a community benefit fund.
Funding could be used to support a large single project or be disseminated across several smaller projects depending on the preferences of the local community.
We look forward to working with local groups and organisations to shape the fund, which could support identified local priorities and initiatives over the coming years, for the lifetime of the project.
The Qualitas Energy Community Benefit Position Paper (February 2025) can be found here, which details Qualitas’ commitment to work with host communities to establish arrangements for the Community Benefit Fund, ensuring that the area and scope of delivery of the funds is what best suits the local community.
Economic benefits
This project will help the landowners turn their low-productivity grazing land into a source of valuable renewable energy.
In addition, we are committed to using local suppliers for the construction and operation phases, maximising opportunities for the local economy.
Benefits from placemaking
Qualitas is committed to delivering placemaking benefits through an iterative design process which reflects local community and other key stakeholder feedback. As part of this, we will ensure that the impacts on wildlife are minimised and that the project will deliver biodiversity and habitat improvements, as well as onsite benefits for the site through new planting, enhancements to the public right of way running through the site, and new signage to increase understanding of Chain Holme Low Radar Station Schedule Monument.
This includes safeguarding existing hedgerows and trees, conducting a series of habitat and species surveys to deliver a net-benefit for biodiversity.
